Sex therapy and psychotherapy for individuals and couple.

How does a therapy work?

At first, we do an evaluation of the different components of an individual’s sexual health in order to understand the person’s sexual dynamic and life experiences. This evaluation enables us to bring back the lines of force and limits of everyone in respect to his/her sexual and loving dream. Thereafter, the therapeutic process brings the individual to understand the nature of the problem and to develop some concrete means in order to reach a sexual and relational life more satisfying and pleasurable.

The duration of therapy varies, which depends on the problem and the motivation of the subject and couple.

Fee is $70 per consult, and is not covered by the Assurance maladie du Québec. However, some private insurance companies may reimburse part of the cost.

As a member of the Association des Sexologues du Québec, we are under the aegis of a rigorous ethical code which insures the quality of our services.

The therapeutic approaches that are used:

The Sex-Corporal approach

The sex-corporal approach is an integrative approach that offers an innovative vision of human sexuality as it relates to since it related to health and not in terms of pathology. The sex-corporal approach defines sexual health as being the development, integration and harmonization of different components, interacting in sexuality. To extract the sexual health’s various elements, the clinician sexologist considers the following four sexologic components : (1) The physiological components including the function of sexual excitement , the sources of sexual excitement and the modes of sexual excitement; (2) The sex-dynamic components referring to the sexual archetypes, the sexual stereotypes, the function of sexual pleasure, the sexual imaginary, the sexual desire, the codes of sexual attraction and sexual assertiveness ; (3) The cognitive components, including the knowledge, ideologies, values, etc.; (4) The relational components, including the erotic and loving communication, the seduction and erotic skills.

The cognitivo-behavioural approach

The cognitivo-behavioural approach aims to treat psychological and sexual troubles by acting on the system of thoughts and the behaviours considered as problematic. During the therapeutic processes, the client becomes aware of his thoughts, believes, interior dialogue, emotions and behaviours associated to his problem. The treatment aims to soften and modify the dysfunctional behaviour.

The interactional-systemic (couple) approach

This approach is based on the principle stating that the couple forms a system on its own. It considers that sexuality is the mirror of the couple’s interaction. During the therapeutic process, the partners identify their relational patterns that they have developed in their relationship, communication, intimacy and sexuality.
